Wyanet
Wyanet's Henry Thomas Museum contains displays of Indian artifacts, Thomas family heirlooms, primitives including cheese boxes, and wooden tools. The museum is one of those undiscovered jewels. The Wyanet Historical Society up the street has a number of rooms filled with local historical items.
Check out the old lift bridge at Lock 21. There are a number of historic canal structures near Wyanet including one of the few surviving lock tender homes. The Hennepin Canal is great place to relax, read a book, catch some rays . . . its all good. The old lift bridge at Lock 21 is a popular place to have a picnic, do some bird watching and take a leisurely stroll along the Grand Illinois Trail running parallel to the canal at this point. Popular with photographers.
A cannon at Forest Hill Cemetery honors soldiers who served in the War of 1812, Black Hawk War, Mexican War, and the Civil War. If you get hungry while going to or through Wyanet you should try the BBQ, pork tenderloin, or pulled pork sandwich with sides at Main Street BBQ. No one ever left hungry from The Coffee Depot, a restaurant with huge portions. The Three Olive Bar & Grill on Rt.6 between Princeton and Wyanet has great steaks, specials, and a large salad bar in the evening.
